Victorinox is a Swiss company, one of the most famous and major manufacturers of knives in the world
In 1884 Karl Elsener began manufacturing knives with the brand Victorinox. Before that he studied the craft in Paris and Germany, where at that time the best knives in Europe wrere manufactured. In the early 1890 Karl Elsener made something risky: he founded the Association of Swiss cutlers so the cutlers could jointly manufacture military knives for the army. But the project, however, failed and for two years all other cutlers quit this job, but not Karl. In 1891, he became a major supplier of knives for the Swiss Army.
VICTORINOX today is the largest manufacturer of knives in Europe. The manufactured knive in XIX century becomes a standard that rightly takes pride of place in the Museum of Modern Art in New York as the best example of modern industrial design.
